Ben Jenkins
Ben first discovered and fell in love with the great American standards when he was 16. He was given the part of 'Joe' in a school production of Showboat and had to sing Ol' Man River. He went home to hunt around for a recording of it in his fathers collection and found it on a 'Best of Frank Sinatra' CD, along with several others of Sinatra's superb recordings. From that moment on he was hooked on Sinatra's supreme talent and new that this was the kind of music he should sing. Over the next two years Ben listened and studied the great vocalists of that era, the likes of Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, taking inspiration from their delivery and interpretation of songs.
The performance bug is definitely in Ben's blood as various older members of Ben's family have been successful professional singers in the 1950's and 60's, so family parties are always a musical affair.
Since then Ben has become an established vocalist completing year round engagements and various contracts in the UK, abroad and on various cruises, singing with various Jazz and Big Bands, such as The Rob James Orchestra, www.therobjamesorchestra.co.uk.
As well as performing full time Ben is currently studying for his Ma Degree in Film Producing and Business Management. He enjoys the mixture of business and creativity on the course which he has also applied to his music career.
At 28 Ben is constantly looking to perform with and explore ideas with talented people if an opportunity arises and can be contacted here.
